We are delighted to invite you to ESID 2020 in Birmingham, to join us for immunological interactions in the Germinal Centre of UK Immunology.Birmingham has a great tradition of immunology research, including the identification of the lymph node germinal centre as the site of affinity maturation. In the same way that lymphocytes interact with each other and with other cells of the immune system in the germinal centre, we hope that scientists and medical professionals from all over the world will network and learn from each other in Birmingham and take away new immune experiences. We are also celebrating 50 years of UK Immunodeficiency in 2020. The first National Health Service Immunodeficiency service was established in 1970 in Birmingham, and it remains the largest training centre in the UK for immunology specialist doctors. The core of the Meeting is, as ever, a comprehensive review of all that is new and exciting in immunodeficiency, with world-class researchers and clinicians sharing their latest developments. But interaction is the key. In a world of podcasts and online lectures and meetings, the opportunity to discuss and debate the significance of discoveries, to share ideas and to learn from each other is what sets a congress like this apart. The Meeting centre is ideally suited to networking, both within and around the venue. We will use the opportunity of the Meeting in our prominent city-centre location to stage public awareness and engagement events. Look out for our pop-up immunity shop, with activities to entertain and inform passer-by. We will also be inviting school students to present their work on immunodeficiency. Maybe some will be inspired to become immunologists of the future. We look forward to welcoming you all to the UK and Birmingham.
