This workshop explores the Eastern Med region as it starts to take prominence as a major natural gas supplier and energy hub. For E&P professionals, service providers, national entities and academics. The first SPE Oil & Gas in the East Med: from Geology to Commercialisation workshop will explore topics such as the geology of Zohr-like carbonate plays, drilling issues, reservoir engineering, pipeline projects, technological advances, HSE matters, and potential synergies. The workshop is geared toward professionals who work for E&P companies, service providers, national entities, professionals and academic institutions. The discovery of more than 150 trillion cubic feet of natural gas offshore Egypt, Israel, and Cyprus creates game-changing possibilities for transforming the Eastern Med into a major natural gas supplier and energy hub. Testament to these efforts has been the presence in the region of companies such as Total SA, Exxon-Mobil, ENI, Rosneft, Qatar Petroleum, Shell, Noble Energy, Kogas, and others. As natural gas becomes increasingly important in a carbon-constrained world, the Eastern Med will assume more prominence. For that to happen, a host of challenges will need to be addressed including understanding the region's geology, addressing drilling challenges, developing ultra-deep water gas fields while keeping the economics attractive. These challenges and more will be discussed in this workshop.
