The Accounting Research Unit of the Athens Institute for Education and Research (ATINER) organizes a Panel on “Emerging Issues in Accounting Reporting” as part of the its 15thAnnual International Conference on Accounting, 3-6 July 2017, Athens, Greece sponsored by the Athens Journal of Business & Economics.

The panel will focus on emerging issues in accounting reporting. It is important to understand how the government intervention affects the accounting quality of the companies. The political connections of the companies influence the accounting reporting. Thus, it is also important to understand the country specific corporate governance framework while explaining strategies of earnings reporting. Recent changes in the corporate governance norms influence the performance management of different types of companies in various ways which in turn affects the accounting reporting. Political connection of the companies, block holding of government have immense impact on the performance of the companies. To run the business, companies need to rely on debt finance to a great extent. The lenders consider the transparency of the accounting reporting an important tool in evaluating the credit worthiness of the companies. So, companies manipulate earnings to report a transparent report to external stakeholders. With an interdisciplinary approach this panel will focus on the above mentioned aspects related to accounting reporting in detail for different countries around the world.

Special arrangements will be made with a local hotel for a limited number of rooms at a special conference rate. In addition, a number of social events will be organized: A Greek night of entertainment with dinner, a special one-day cruise to selected Greek islands, an archaeological tour of Athens and a one-day visit to Delphi. Details of the social program are available here.

Fee structure information is available on http://www.atiner.gr/fees.

The Athens Institute for Education and Research (ATINER) was established in 1995 as an independent world association of Academics and Researchers. Its mission is to act as a forum where Academics and Researchers from all over the world can meet in Athens, in order to exchange ideas on their research, and to discuss future developments in their disciplines.

The organizing and hosting of International Conferences and Symposiums, the carrying out of Research, and the production of Publications are the basic activities of ATINER.
